What is this all about?
To be honest, it is mostly a social experiment in micro finance. Hopefully it will also be my ticket to freedom... financial
freedom, career freedom, and the freedom to live life on my own terms. Some will probably call this a gimmick, some will call
me lazy or a deadbeat. While I can appreciate everyone's opinion, I assure you that I will only use my powers for good and not evil.
The Goal:
The financial goal is $60,000 which represents my current annual salary plus 30% to pay the income taxes. The social goal is
to see what kind of support is available from my fellow humans in order to determine if this experiment can be expanded. And of
course the ultimate goal is freedom from the man!
My Story:
I am a married guy in the 35-40 age bracket and have worked in the IT industry for over 15 years. It has been a decent career,
but has become more tedious on a daily basis. I'm also feeling a stronger desire to find an occupation that gives back to the world at large in
some shape or form. I'm not yet sure what that will be, but in setting myself free I will have the time and energy to pursue that goal.
I have always had a very entrepreneurial drive and I've been able to successfully run a couple of small side ventures over the years, but nothing
on a large enough scale to be self-supporting. This is where the Pay Me To Quit project comes in. After my fellow humans have set me free, I'll be
able to take the necessary steps to changing my work life for the better.

Why the $1 Limit?
Several reasons: Most folks can give up a dollar. If this fails, no one will have lost a huge investment. It gives me a chance
to see just how many people can relate to my situation giving me a better idea on how this project might scale
in the future.
Then What?
Well, if this venture is successful I will setup the framework for others to get paid to quit. So, the more who contribute the quicker that can be done
and we can all get started helping others like me. Maybe it's you...
And What Will I Do Long-term?
I will leave the IT industry, at least in a "work for the man" capacity and choose something that I will love to do. Many have said it in different ways,
but "if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life" and that is my ulitmate goal. I would like to look forward to Monday mornings. I am
seeking deep satisfaction from what I do. I want to have a positive impact on the world and its people - even if that is only at the local level.
I have mulled
over serveral different careers over the years. Here are a few of my recent ideas:
- Document destruction service
- Local recycling pickup
- Bakery or Ice Cream Shop
- Car wash or Mini Storage
- Think tank firm
- Green energy consultant
Or maybe go back to school. I enjoy teaching others what I know on a variety of subjects (just ask my family!) and I think that profession would be enjoyable
at the adult level.
